The Code Enforcement Board and hearings by the special magistrate is a quasi-judicial arm for the code enforcement process. The hearings main purposes are to hear cases, prescribe penalties, and achieve compliance with the city code. The majority of the cases heard are for, demolition of unsafe structures, lot cleanup, abandoned or junked vehicles, sign violations, and cutting protected trees without a permit.
Hearings before the code enforcement special magistrate are held the 2nd Thursday of the month at 2:30 p.m. with the exception of June and December at which time the Code Enforcement Board convenes at 2 p.m. All hearings are held at City Hall in the chambers of the City Commissioners. If an additional code hearing is necessary, the 2nd meeting will be held either the 1st or 4th Thursday of the month. The city’s code enforcement section prepares the agenda for the code enforcement meetings. For information concerning code enforcement agenda items, please call the code enforcement section at the Panama City Police Department at 850-872-7209.
