The Panama City Fire Department hosted a swearing-in and awards ceremony on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Station 1. The Department promoted one member and welcomed in five new firefighters as well as recognized firefighters for their life-saving actions and dedication to our community.

Citizen Community Life Saving Award
Granted to any member of the community who aids in saving the life of another.
Todd Flitcraft, Panama City Resident and former Panama City Beach Fire Rescue Firefighter
On January 23, 2018, Mr. Flitcraft selflessly saved his neighbor who was trapped inside her burning home. He searched through the smoke until he found the woman and carried her to safety outside the home.
The woman and her family attended the awards ceremony and shared many hugs with Mr. Flitcraft.
Life Saving Award
Granted to any member of the fire department who saves the life of another while in an on-duty capacity within the City of Panama City.
Captain/EMT Jerome Fleeman and Firefighter Luke Leonard (Engine 1, “B” Battalion)
On January 15, 2018, Capt. Fleeman and FF Leonard with support from Engineer Stephen Groover saved an infant who was born at home and not breathing. After initiating medical care, the baby started to breathe, move and cry.
All three received a Special Unit Citation.
Lieutenant Deric Darsey and Firefighter/EMT Andrew Terwilliger (Engine 1, “C” Battalion)
On January 23, 2018, Lt. Darsey and FF Terwilliger saved an unresponsive woman by performing CPR.
Both also received a Special Unit Citation.
Lieutenant Kevin Lolley, Firefighter Ryan Smith, and Firefighter/EMT Derek Wicker (Engine 4, “B” Battalion)
On January 30, 2018, Lt. Kevin Lolley, FF Smith, and FF Wicker arrived to a scene where a Panama City Police Officer was performing CPR on an unresponsive woman. The three men took over CPR and provided additional Basic Life Support Care. Through their efforts, the woman began breathing on her own. Engineer Aaron Brock quickly transported the crew to the scene and provided support.
All four received a Special Unit Citation.
Lieutenant/EMT Billy Mixon, Lieutenant Graham Tolbert, Engineer Matt Cajote, Firefighter Jorge Tojeiro, and Firefighter Jon LeFurge (Engines 1, 3, and 4, Tower 1, “C” Battalion)
On March 3, 2018, “C” Battalion’s Engines 1, 3, and 4 and Tower 1 responded to a fully involved house fire. The crew helped two victims who were inside the home get outside safely. Two other victims were trapped and carried outside by firefighters.
The entire crew which also includes Battalion Chief/EMT David Collier, Lieutenant/EMT Brandon Mallory, Engineer/EMT Robert Diaz, Engineer/EMT Richard Goodwin, Firefighter/EMT Corey Poole, Firefighter Rex McAllister, Firefighter Jake Taylor, and Firefighter John Bradt received a Special Unit Citation.
Meritorious Service Award
Presented to members of the fire department for special dedication in the service of the members of the department.

These members assigned to Station 2 researched, designed, and built a search and rescue confidence prop that is used in training.
Captain David Jernigan, Lieutenant/EMT Billy Mixon, Lieutenant John Paul Oliver, Engineer/EMT Nick Stillwagon, Engineer Roy Albright, Firefighter Justin Gay, Firefighter Amanda Scoggin, and Firefighter Steven Smith
These department members designed and built miniature houses that are used in fire behavior lessons. The homes allow instructors to create smoke explosions and other dangerous characteristics in a safe, observable environment.
