TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – More than 20,700 Florida survivors recovering from Hurricane Michael haven’t completed the disaster assistance grant registration process because they have not reported their insurance settlements. In order to complete the registration process, you must report the insurance settlement amount you have received to FEMA. This could include coverage under policies like homeowners, flood, automobile or mobile home insurance.

Contact your insurance company and request a settlement letter that details exactly your insurance settlement, then upload the settlement letter to your disaster-assistance account through the portal DisasterAssistance.gov, via fax: 800-827-8112 or by mail:

FEMA-Individuals and Households Program
National Processing Center
P.O. Box 10055
Hyattsville, MD 20702-8055

For help uploading documents to your account, visit a disaster recovery center or call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362 (TTY: 800-462-7585). To find the closest center and hours of operation please call the Helpline or visit FEMA.gov/DRC. Applicants must make sure that their name and FEMA registration number is on every page of their documents.

Assistance for applicants who demonstrate their insurance settlement has been delayed 30 days or more from the date a claim was filed may be considered for initial rental assistance.

  • Applicants accepting assistance in advance of their insurance settlement must agree to repay FEMA upon receiving their insurance benefit.

Send information about your settlement delay by mail to:

FEMA-Individuals and Households Program
National Processing Center
P.O. Box 10055
Hyattsville, MD 20702-8055
, or via fax: 800-827-8112.
