The Panama City Fire Department will be conducting annual fire hydrant maintenance during the month of May.
Firefighters will be removing any obstructions (i.e. foliage) to the hydrant, cleaning and greasing the hydrant threads, slightly opening the hydrant to allow water to flow and replacing any defective or broken blue street markers.
While maintenance is being performed in your area, there may be a temporary drop in water pressure. Discolored water sometimes results following the flow tests. Both of these issues are temporary and should clear up quickly.
Water customers who see discolored water may check the clarity by running water for a few minutes and allowing new water to work its way into the pipes.
Annual hydrant maintenance is a requirement from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 1) Fire Code, section 18.5.5, Testing and maintenance.
