The City Commission of the City of Panama City has hired Janette Smith to serve as the new City Clerk-Treasurer for the City. Smith’s employment contract was unanimously approved by the Mayor and Commissioners at their meeting on April 27, 2021.
“As we leverage state and federal funding in our recovery from Hurricane Michael, it is imperative that we have a City Clerk-Treasurer that is well educated in accounting and financial audits. Ms. Smith’s extensive knowledge and experience in municipal finance will be invaluable for the City,” said Mayor Greg Brudnicki.
Smith is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with more than 20 years of experience in governmental auditing and accounting. She is currently the Chief Financial Officer for the City of North Miami Beach, where she has been employed in a finance role since 2016.
Smith has both a Master’s and Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Florida State University.
“I am honored and humbled to have been selected by the Commission to be the next City Clerk-Treasurer for the great City of Panama City. I will strive to serve residents, the business community, City Commission and fellow employees with excellence, transparency, fairness, respect and understanding,” Smith shared at the Commission Meeting.
The City Clerk-Treasurer leads the Accounting and Utility Billing teams as well as oversees all volunteer boards and committees. The position also maintains official records for the City, including agendas, minutes, ordinances, resolutions, contracts and other vital documents.
Smith will begin working with the City on July 1, 2021.
