A developer is trying to replace the Panama City Marina with a multi-million dollar complex (hotels/restaurants/etc.). The only public marina which provides Covered Boat Slips, Fishing Supplies, Easy Gulf Access, and excellent public fishing access to the Bay is in jeopardy. The wonderful staff at the Marina will likely be laid off once this happens. The only way we can stop this is for the citizens of Panama City to unite in opposition to this and reach out to our City Council Representatives.

The marina should remain public space. There are no other open spaces in town where locals and visitors alike can gather together and enjoy this beautiful bay that we're blessed with. If Panama City is to develop an urban identity, we need to establish a cultural center just like any major city. We already have the Civic Center for performing arts, and I can envision the old library as an art gallery big enough to host traveling exhibits. With modifications the rooftop can be converted to a rooftop café with shade sails as a nautical theme. City Hall can be converted to a museum of our historical heritage and natural history. Expand by moving PCMI (not the boat ramp) by Watson Bayou, and turn the property as boat launch for canoes, rowboats, kayaks, etc., and, along with the adjoining lot, additional parking. Acquire land on west side for picnics and maybe a botanical garden. Private developers can purchase property across the street (Daffin Supply -boat works) for condos/hotels.

Our town has the potential to be so beautiful, unfortunately it seems noone is on the same page. I think if there was a landscaping code in Panama City it would help the overall look of the town. Doesn't it amazing any of you driving 30 minutes down the road and ending up in Rosemary Beach where everything looks pristine, then you take a stroll down front Beach or Thomas Drive and everything looks like slobs live up and down every street on the beach. Traveling to different towns is really made me realize how much tourist appreciate the overall landscape of a town. We have so much that we could work with if everyone was in charge of their own property, and everyone had to meet the same qualifications it would clean this place up tremendously. Or hire somebody at least to clean up North Lagoon and Thomas Drive. And for gods sake somebody tear down Buckalew's when is that establishment ever going to be used again, it looks like a haunted house and definitely not attractive

I suggest Panama use Beach Spotter's during Spring Breaks like
the Weather Fort Caster's use storm spotter's to phone in sightings of storm cell's or tornado's or funnel clouds . There is no better way than to have boots on the sands of Panama City Beaches whom can rapid phone in sightings of trouble or trouble area's then law enforcement can respond quickly to those hot spot area's . It would also help to build state of the art police command centers near the beaches with live video feeds linking them to each command center with a video center where trained staff monitor the video's as well like Casino's do. Panama can not afford to forego and not implement these safety measures if they in truth wish to stop
such felony gang rapes and felony crimes along their beaches.
When I heard of the arrest of Davon Kennedy and he attends college at Middle TN University I cried last night and thanked God he did not rape or hurt Ashley Todd AkA Pink Angel Murfreesboro , TN

Anytime, for whatever reason, there is a drop in the water pressure in the Cove area we deal with nasty brown water that stains laundry..clogs up water filters and stains anything it comes in contact with. It's unacceptable and beyond tolerable. The city officialss need to do their job and get serious about this problem.

The Grace Jamaica Caribbean themed festival known as Jerk Fest that has in recent years become a staple of the Ft. Lauderdale and Miami-Dade areas of Florida is quickly becoming a nationwide phenomenon, having already expanded north of the pan-handle area of Florida and the Southern region of the country to states like New York. Now is a prime opportunity to capitalize on the success of the festival by continuing its expansion and bringing it to the pan-handle areas of Tallahassee and Panama City. This is the biggest Caribbean festival nationwide compiling in 2.1 million in revenue annually at each venue during the year. Given the large number of college students and families that travel to and from The south, east, west, north to Panama City during the months of March and April; the F.A.R. Movement feels that surrounding cities and the prestigious Panama City Beach economies and small business can flourish from an annual event of this magnitude. Security and Safety is our #1 Priority.

If you look around Panama City at all of the businesses that survived the hurricane you will notice a common trend. "For Hire" signs are everywhere. You cannot find a place to rent in Panama City. Half of the population of Panama City has left and may not return.
To rebuild Panama City you will need to start with low-income housing. As it stands even with over 80% of all commercial buildings being destroyed, businesses cant find workers. As we continue to clean up the mess we need to provide incentives to developers and builders to repair existing low income housing and build more ASAP.
Secondly, we need to provide incentives such as interest free loans and tax breaks to new and current business owners to build and rebuild in Panama city.
Lastly, there needs to be a new building code requiring all buildings be built to withstand Category 5 Hurricanes.

I have been a local since 1994 and everyone in neighborhood still have septic tanks. There are so many septic tanks the land is polluted. My neighbor on south lagoon got a staff infection when she step outside on her foot due to fecal matter. Why cant the county get grant money to assist the residents. a terrible embarrasment to those of us who live in the Northshore area which used to be upscale but with this property as an entryway to our neighborhoods is a sight for sore eyes. Hoping it can be mowed and cleared and made presentable. The widening of 390 which will probably impact the lot is a LONG WAY OFF and it is a shame this is a blighted property. HELP!
