Scott Ervin began his career with the Panama City Police Department in July of 1999 after 6 years of experience with other agencies in the Bay County area. He has worked in various sections of the department by serving in Field Services Section, Community Services Section, Professional Services Section and Investigative Services Section. He has worked his way through the ranks of the department serving in various supervisory capacities to his previous assignment as the Deputy Chief of Police. He was promoted to the position of Acting Chief in 2012, and later to Chief in February of 2013.

He is a graduate of Florida State University with a Master of Science in Criminology and a graduate of FDLE Senior Leadership Program Class #14. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor for Gulf Coast Community College and Florida State University Panama City.

He serves his profession and community by being the Chair of the Gulf Coast Community College Criminal Justice Advisory Committee from 2005 to 2010 and currently serving as the Vice Chair. He is a member of the FSU Panama City Alumni board as well as having served as a member of the Panama City Faith Based Coalition. He also served as a member of the 2006 FDLE Curriculum Review Panel for Basic Law Enforcement Recruit Academy Training. He is a member of the Florida Police Chiefs Association and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
